TECHNIQUES, METHODOLOGY & ANATOMY MODULE
The three courses in this module are designed to build on and support each other.

Advanced Anatomy for Yoga – 15-Hour Online Course

This is David Keil’s anatomy course developed specifically for 300-hour yoga trainings. We’ll use that foundation to follow the anatomy through the process of building asanas. We’ll deconstruct seemingly complex asanas and look at their parts and pieces through the lens of anatomy. This course will provide you with information and tools to understand why you might be observing a particular pattern in your student’s practice. At the completion of this course, you’ll have a better understanding of how to help your students build the patterns they need to evolve their postures in a healthy way.

This course includes: video tutorials, reading assignments, online quizzes, study guide questions and exploration exercises

-how to break down a complex pose

PLEASE NOTE: A ‘peak pose’ does not mean ‘advanced’. The art of teaching simple to complex can be applied to all levels and variants of an asana. You are not required to perform what is considered more advanced poses to complete this course of study.

This course includes: audio tutorials, reading and written assignments

Module One Final Exam:
Your final exam consists of planning a class based on your studies of the ‘Peak Pose Sequencing & Teaching Simple to Complex’ unit.

You will be required to either submit a video recording of you leading a class (or student) or you have the option of an in-person assessment at the LKPY studio (you will be assigned a LKPY teacher as your student or you can bring your own – fee is $200)

PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS MODULE

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras ask us to turn inward through meditation and self-study with the intention to guide us towards self-realization and determining how we want to move through life. The Bhagavad Gita asks us to contemplate how we are putting our yoga into action for the greater good – to create a just world.

This module will take you deep into the study of yoga philosophy on an intellectual level. But it will also ask you to re-evaluate how you apply specific philosophical principles as you navigate through life and in the world. It will ask, what is your dharma?

We will also deep dive into the current state of western yoga. We will address cultural appropriation and what you as a teacher can do to be true to and honor yoga’s roots in your teaching to help create more equity, diversity, and unity in your classes and out in the world.

The 8 Limbs of Yoga in Action
This unit is designed to compliment and reinforce your online studies with yogicstudies.com. It includes 11 prerecorded guided yoga class practices that will spotlight a specific philosophical concept and a 10-week course of self-study and reflection.

Each prerecorded practice includes an asana practice, mantras, and a guided meditation relevant to the philosophical focus. Through practice, you will learn how to apply yoga philosophy into your class using physical actions to help your students develop a better understanding of what yoga really is – beyond the pose.
You will also receive class plans using the 8 Limbs as a theme. Each plan includes sequencing, scripts for guided meditations and opening intentions when applicable.

As part of this unit, over the course of 10 weeks, you will review the yamas and niyamas, and with the guidance of ‘Skill In Action’ & ‘Embrace Yoga’s Roots’, dig deeper and bring the focus as to how to put them into action on a global level – for the collective good. You will be asked to reevaluate how you apply specific philosophical principles in your classes and how you apply them as you navigate through life.

Self-reflection papers are required to help explore your growth in these concepts since you were first introduced to them and to discern if and how you are putting your yoga into action for the greater good of the world.

Guided meditations with a focus on each Yama and Niyama are included to supplement your self-exploration each week. You will learn how to write and lead a guided meditation.

This course includes: required asana and meditation practices, reading and journaling assignments
